how did a show with no dialogue and next to know human characters still manage to perpetuate racist stereotypes? Whiteness.

What pisses me off is the fact that in 2008 they did a reboot of Tom and Jerry which still plays on television today I think. Instead of creating a non-stereotypical Black character/pet-owner… instead of re-imagining this Black woman…. They just scrapped her and made her a White lady… and named her “Mrs. Two Shoes“….

Everything about her is the same though. It’s just a bleached stereotype of a Black woman.

One of the biggest Filipin@ cultural events I attend is the NYC Philippines Independence Day Parade along Madison Ave. Every year I attend there seems to be more and more people attending with not just from the tri-state area but those from other parts of the country as well.

Live cultural dances, music, costumes, and appearances from well known Filipin@ celebrities come to the parade and this year was no exception.

This movie drastically changes literally every story it involves, but it would just be silly for them to change the characters’ races. Plus, we all know that that stories written by 19th century German storytellers were meant to be depicted by a 21st century English cast.

For real; most of these fairy tales are German but you KNOW that these characters aren’t going to have German accents or German cultural references or German ANYTHING except the names of the characters. Plus, this is a musical in which magic beans and giants and talking wolves are considered normal parts of living. But casting a black or brown person is somehow be the tipping point against accuracy?

A nice Cheerios advertisement whose only discernible difference from other Cheerios commercials is that it depicts an interracial family was forced to disable its YouTube comments section today after it became inundated with virulent racism.
